Tasting Notes

Gavi from Ernesto Picollo opens with an aromatic expression of citrus, mainly lemon and grapefruit, green apple with great minerality in the background. Refreshing attack, marked by lively notes of lemon, green apple where acidity and minerality play a major role.

Italy

Piemonte

Piemonte in the north-west of Italy is Italy's finest wine region with almost half of the production under the DOCG status. Respected names like Barolo, Barbaresco, Moscato d'Asti, and Barbera d'Alba are the flagships of the region. Nebbiolo is the key grape variety of the region accounting for half of the total production.

Cool continental climate

Picollo Ernesto

The soils in Piemonte are influenced by their location within the mountain. The top of the hills are poor and essentially based on alluvial deposits. The lower part of the mountain is made up of clay-limestone soil with a variable proportion of sand, which often determines the degree of finesse in the wines. Piedmont sits at the foot of the Western Alps which encircle the best sites around the cities of Alba and Asti - made up with calcareous marl and sandstone.
