Alsace is a complex mosaic with different soils, subsoils, and bedrocks, being the result of its location on a geological fault. Alsace vineyards sits in a hole between the Vosges and the Black Forest. If we can generalize, the subsoil in Alsace can be marly, slightly granitic, volcanic, sandy, calcareous, or even very stony clay.
