Soil Specificity

The soils in Niederösterreich are very diverse. One find Mica-schist in the Bohemian massif in the Kamptal region, but also bedrock weathered soils, covered with a thin coating of humus. The heart of Heiligenstein, an almost ideal partner for top-class Rieslings is a weathered desert sandstone from the Permian. Grüner Veltliner thrives on the gravel soils of Manhartsberg or the partly massive loess deposits that characterise the southern borders of this wine region.

A Passionate Lineage

Weingut Franz Xaver Pichler is a family-run business located in Dürnstein, in the Austrian wine region of Wachau. The small vineyard consist of local grapes like Grüner Veltliner und Rheinriesling. The family's philosophy is to get the best out of nature and terroirs. The idea is to respect the nature, but also the capital of the company - the vineyard. The knowledge, the experience, and the understanding gained from tradition in association with intuition and world-openness are the key factors to success. Critics describe this estate as one of the leading growers in the region of Wachau.
