“Federico Scarzello has proven his skills and respect for tradition by producing quality wines with dignity and pride of their origins.”
Soil Specificity
The soils in Piemonte are influenced by their location within the mountain. The top of the hills are poor and essentially based on alluvial deposits. The lower part of the mountain is made up of clay-limestone soil with a variable proportion of sand, which often determines the degree of finesse in the wines. Piedmont sits at the foot of the Western Alps which encircle the best sites around the cities of Alba and Asti - made up with calcareous marl and sandstone.

A Passionate Lineage
Scarzello is a family run estate located in the heart of the village of Barolo, The vineyard is organically farmed (with some biodynamic practices) mainly in the iconic Cru of Sarmassa, including the legendary "Vigna Merenda". Very classic wine making style, with more than 30 days macerations and a long ageing in Slavonian oak “botti”. Nothing is rushed in this winery, and wines are given three more years of bottle ageing before being released - nowadays a very uncommon practice, but very beneficial for the wines.
