“Paolo Zanini works small plots following traditional methods to let the grape variety express the terroir.”
Soil Specificity
The soils in the Trentino / Alto Adige wine region are immersed in the Southern Limestone Alps. Trentino constitutes the southern half of this region around the city of Trento, with valleys formed by the Adige river and its tributaries where most of the vineyards lie. The gravelly and calcareous soils along the river are made up largely of alluvial and colluvial deposits, making the culture of vines viable.
History / Ethos
Redondèl is run by the philosophical yet tenacious Paolo Zanini. The estate is dedicated entirely to teroldego, the noble red grape of the Trentino region. Paolo works seven parcels, totalling just over 3 hectares, dotted around the village of Mezzolombardo, considered the best in Trentino for teroldego. His vines range in age from 25 to 80 years, and his work is informed always by traditional methods. After fermentation in large old barrels, Paolo gives his wines extended bottle ageing before release, resulting in one of the most complex, sumptuous teroldego of the region.
