“Rafael Palacios produces great wines giving Godello, the local grape variety, a deserved recognition."
The soils in Galicia / Asturia are located between the Atlantic coast, the Serra dos Ancares mountain, and Portugal to the south. Galicia is a well know wine making region of Spain, while Asturias might be better known for cider. The vineyard soils in Galicia range from granite in the Rías Baixas area to slate in the Valdeorras region. In Asturias, the soils are composed of slate.
History / Ethos
Bodega Rafael Palacios was created in 2004 in the North-West of Spain. After having collaborated with some winegrowers from the area, Rafael Palacios, attracted by the potential of the Godello variety, started his own project in long- neglected vineyards of Valdeorras. The extreme topography and weak production of the soil led him to this historic region, known for its terra ced sites. Historically, the vineyard’s small parcels were divided by drawing lots or “Sorte” in Galician. The motto is to enhance the quality of white wines from the local grape variety - Godello. The respect of the soil, terroir, and vines really matters here - the estate is certified biodynamic. Rafael Palacios starts to be a reference for Spanish white wines.
