“Lorenzo Picollo produces wines with a care for detail, where fruity and minerality are intermingled.”
Soil Specificity
The soils in Piemonte are influenced by their location within the mountain. The top of the hills are poor and essentially based on alluvial deposits. The lower part of the mountain is made up of clay-limestone soil with a variable proportion of sand, which often determines the degree of finesse in the wines. Piedmont sits at the foot of the Western Alps which encircle the best sites around the cities of Alba and Asti - made up with calcareous marl and sandstone.
A Passionate Lineage
Picollo Ernesto estate, founded by Lorenzo Picollo, is located in Rovereto di Gavi, one of the most prestigious parts of the Gavi appellation. The founder’s great-grandson, also named Lorenzo Picollo continue the family tradition and further the aim of producing high quality white wine. Cortese grape variety was first cultivated here many centuries ago. The grapes are cultivated with traditional methods, which exclude the use of chemicals, maintaining the old tradition and the firm belief that good wine comes only from excellent grapes.
