“Olek Bondonio produces hand-crafted Barbaresco and Langhe from one of the best vineyard plot in Piemonte.”
Soil Specificity
The soils in Piemonte are influenced by their location within the mountain. The top of the hills are poor and essentially based on alluvial deposits. The lower part of the mountain is made up of clay-limestone soil with a variable proportion of sand, which often determines the degree of finesse in the wines. Piedmont sits at the foot of the Western Alps which encircle the best sites around the cities of Alba and Asti - made up with calcareous marl and sandstone.
History / Ethos
Olek Bondonio is a very small estate in Piemonte. Olek Bondonio does all the vineyard and cellar work himself, allowing him to hand-craft wines from Nebbiolo. Some of the holdings include part of the Roncagliette vineyard, a steep, south-western amphitheatre of vines that is also home to Gaja's Sorì Tildin and Costa Russi plots. Here fermentations are spontaneous and carried out in concrete tanks. Olek's meticulous attention to detail shows in the generous, traditionally-framed wines that are a tribute to old Piemonte.
