“Dr. Dirk Max Ferdinand Richter produces classic Mosel wines that are defined by a perfect balance of delicate flavours with residual sugar and high acidity.”
The soils in Mosel / Saar / Ruwer are made of porous slate. The best sites are located on the slopes along the Mosel river and its tributaries, where the heat from the sun can be maximised by reflection. up from the water. The terroir is easily recognisable, thanks to its high content of slate. This gives slaty mineral notes to Riesling, ranking German Riesling at the top of the world.
A Passionate Lineage
Max Ferdinand Richter is a family business owned by the same family since 1643. The estate is managed by Dr. Dirk Max Ferdinand Richter (ninth generation). The tenth generation Constantin Max Ferdinand Richter also works at the estate. Dirk believes that great wine comes from the vineyard, not the cellar. The domain strive for precision in viticultural work, which is a challenge regarding the steep, slate slopes of Mosel where the vines thrive. Here sustainable farming is overcome by fastidious handwork. Very low yields of high quality grapes and good knowledge and techniques during vinification gives Richter wines exceptional longevity.
