"My goal is to make a wine of elegance, with precise structure and focus".

Soil Specificity

The soils in Piemonte are influenced by their location within the mountain. The top of the hills are poor and essentially based on alluvial deposits. The lower part of the mountain is made up of clay-limestone soil with a variable proportion of sand, which often determines the degree of finesse in the wines. Piedmont sits at the foot of the Western Alps which encircle the best sites around the cities of Alba and Asti - made up with calcareous marl and sandstone.

History / Ethos

Margherita Otto is a newcomer with only 3 hectares in Barolo. Alan Manley, who trained with Maria-Teresa Mascarello located his winery in Montforte d'Alba. Alan extends the tradition of blending vineyard sites, with fruit from Pernanno (in Castiglione Falletto), vines next to Ginestra (Monforte), and next to Vigna Rionda (Serralunga). The winemaking is resolutely old school as well as one can imagine with such training. The Azienda is named in honour of Alan’s grandmother and grandfather. Alan Manley represents the new generation of Barolo traditionalists, with an organic approach.
