“Rafael López de Heredia produces wines with the soul and elegance of those you could have tasted in the last century.”
The soils in La Rioja and Navarra share common features like the soil composition - Alluvial, Ferruginous Clay, and Calcareous Clay. Rioja Alta sub-region is well known for its high-quality wines with vines thriving on calcareous clay soils. La Rioja is a fertile land in the Ebro river valley, which flows through the region from west to east, enclosed by two mountain ranges.
A Passionate Lineage
Rafael López de Heredia was founded in 1877 by Rafael López de Heredia. One of the three first wineries in Rioja and the oldest in Haro, is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest wine estates. Many conditions have to be fulfilled for their wines to achieve that superlative quality, which makes them live on in the memory of those who have tasted them. The personality of their wine is influenced by climate, soil, attention in the vineyards, winemaking, and, finally, by the care it receives in the cellar during the lengthy period of oak barrels before its bottle ageing.
