“Alejandra Schmedes produces wines with classic allure and modern polish.”
The soils in La Rioja and Navarra share common features like the soil composition - Alluvial, Ferruginous Clay, and Calcareous Clay. Rioja Alta sub-region is well known for its high-quality wines with vines thriving on calcareous clay soils. La Rioja is a fertile land in the Ebro river valley, which flows through the region from west to east, enclosed by two mountain ranges.
A Passionate Lineage
Heras Cordon is a family business located in the heart of La Rioja Alta. Modern winemaking facilities plus a talented oenologist are the key components of the success and the high quality wines produced here. Alejandra Schmedes is the winemaker who crafts the great wines of the estate, the only Spanish winery to supply wine to the Vatican. The vineyards are planted with old vine Rioja varietals, predominantly Trempanillo. Here the wines are aged in a combination of French as well as American oak barrels, which impart elegant spice and toast characteristics, but always the exceptional of the fruits is allowed to shine through.
