Soil Specificity

The soils in Abruzzo ranges from Mesozoic and Tertiary limestone in the Apennine peaks, to Pliocene and Pleistocene marine sediments as we get closer to the Adriatic sea. Dolomite, limestone, and marl characterise best the variety of soils in the region. The majority of vineyards are found in the hilly areas in the Chieti province. Sloping land, altitude, shallow and rocky soils are key elements of this great terroir.

A Passionate Lineage

Fratelli Barba is a family business established in the Abruzzo region since the 18th century. The estate covers 684 hectares, producing olive oil, dairy, orchard fruits, as well as wine. Over the last 25 years, Giovanni Barba has dedicated himself to constant quality in every aspect of their winemaking. The cellar built in 1991 is steadily modernised to implement higher quality each year. The vineyard underwent massive changes in the 70s, in order to reach higher levels of quality. The result is a portfolio of superb quality wines.
