“Ferdinando Principiano produces elegant, fine wines, with purity. His deep earth wines are full of emotion.”
Soil Specificity
The soils in Piemonte are influenced by their location within the mountain. The top of the hills are poor and essentially based on alluvial deposits. The lower part of the mountain is made up of clay-limestone soil with a variable proportion of sand, which often determines the degree of finesse in the wines. Piedmont sits at the foot of the Western Alps which encircle the best sites around the cities of Alba and Asti - made up with calcareous marl and sandstone.

A Passionate Lineage
Ferdinando Principano is a family estate run since 1993 by a kind of unusual character in the very provincial Piemonte. Ferdinando Principiano is one of the most open minded wine-makers. He left conventional farming and wine making only for a matter of taste. Unhappy with the direction his wines were taking, mainly because he couldn't find in them any specific identity or sense of terroir. He started to follow more and more a non-interventional practice, both in the vineyard and in the cellar to get emotions and life in his wines. A true definition of Biodynamic.
