Soil Specificity

The soils in Galicia / Asturias are located between the Atlantic coast, the Serra dos Ancares mountain, and Portugal to the south. Galicia is a well know wine making region of Spain, while Asturias might be better known for cider. The vineyard soils in Galicia range from granite in the Rías Baixas area to slate in the Valdeorras region. In Asturias, the soils are composed of slate.

A Passionate Lineage

Dominio del Urogallo is a small estate set up on Spain's northern coast by the pioneer Nicolas Marcos and his partner Fran Asencio. Nicolas Marcos comes from a wine making family based in Toro. This winemaker has an intense personality, plus a willingness to produce the kind of wines he loves - refined, aromatic, and pure. Part of his training led him to learn under the orders of legendary winemaker Alain Graillot in Crozes Hermitage. He learned how to respect the symbioses between the soil, the climate, and the local grapes. He cultivates the vineyards on steep slopes following the precepts of biodynamic viticulture.
