"Emile Balland produces modern, fruity and clea-cut wines, full of freshness."
The large variety of soils in the Loire Valley is characterised by diverse natural environments. This region can be sub-divided in four climates, from western coastal regions to inlands - Pays Nantais / Anjou-Saumur / Touraine / Central Vineyards. The Eastern end of the Loire is geographically a vast chalk bed made of fossilized sea shells giving Central Vineyards' soils their characteristics: a continuation of the Kimmeridgian clay that extends towards Chablis, with some limestone or flint.
A Passionate Lineage
Domaine Emile Balland is located in the heart of the Val de Loire, home of Sauvignon Blanc. The young and talented Emile Balland hails from a long line of Sancerre winemakers. Following inheritance problems, he began to acquire his own parcels in 1999 in the Côteaux du Giennois and Sancerre while finishing his studies in Agricultural Engineering and Oenology. In both, the vineyard and the cellar, all the process are set up to produce great quality wines expressing the beauty of the terroirs.
