Soil Specificity

The large variety of soils in the Loire Valley is characterised by diverse natural environments. This region can be sub-divided in four climates, from western coastal regions to inlands - Pays Nantais / Anjou-Saumur / Touraine / Central Vineyards. In Anjou-Saumur, the soils are divided in two different types: the dark schist soils on the southeast edge of the Massif Armoricain and the white limestone chalk soils.

History / Ethos

Domaine du Closel is a family domaine located in the Château des Vaults in Savennières. The entire vineyard is located on the most western hill of Savennières and includes some of the best parcels in the AOC. Evelyne de Pontbriand took over the estate in 2001 from her parents ans she quickly converted the domaine to organic viticulture and biodynamic practices. From the work in the vineyard to the attention to the wines in the cellar, everything has been planed to express the best of the terroirs.
