"Jean-Marie Granier produces soft, velvety wines with a hint of spices and a long finish.”
Soil Specificity
The soils in the Rhone Valley are the result of a geological collision between the Massif Central and the Alps, creating the valley. This region can be split into two sub-regions, Northern and Southern Rhône. Successive layers of fluvial and calcareous marine sediments formed reliefs and geological diversities in the Southern Rhône. The valley’s soils consists nowadays of four different types of rock: granite, sandy silica, limestone and clay. Here the bedrock plays a major role by allowing different access to water and nutrients depending on the soils compositions.
A Passionate Lineage
Domaine de la Montagnette is a member of Caves des Vignerons d'estezargues, founded in 1965 by 23 small producers (less than 1 hectare) and 8 bigger producers making easier big investments in the cellar while respecting each terroirs, separating wines from each producers. This Côtes du Rhône Villages “Signargues" was raised to AOC status in 2005. The work in the vineyards is done respecting the nature, without chemicals. The hand-harvested crop undergoes a fermentation respecting traditions and minimising interventions to highlight the terroir.
