“Roberto Conterno’s work is traditional, very close to Organic, with the least intervention possible.”
Soil Specificity
The soils in Piemonte are influenced by their location within the mountain. The top of the hills are poor and essentially based on alluvial deposits. The lower part of the mountain is made up of clay-limestone soil with a variable proportion of sand, which often determines the degree of finesse in the wines. Piedmont sits at the foot of the Western Alps which encircle the best sites around the cities of Alba and Asti - made up with calcareous marl and sandstone.

History / Ethos
Azienda Vitivinicola Nervi is now (since 2018) owned and run by Barolo icon, Roberto Conterno. This new acquisition from Giacomo Conterno consists of 27 hectares, planted of Nebbiolo, in Alto Piemonte with large holdings in two of the top crus of Gattinara - Molsino and Valferana. The history of this estate dates back more than 100 years, while the history of wine in the area goes back further still. Gattinara was awarded DOC status in 1967, and later upgraded to DOCG in 1990.
